Find out if you qualify for Flood Insurance
Floods are the number one natural disaster in the United States. Ninety (90) percent of natural disasters declared by the President involve some sort of flooding. Flooding impacts homes and businesses across the nation, but contrary to popular belief, homeowners insurance does not cover flood damage. The National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) defines flood in four ways:
Most people are unaware they qualify for flood insurance; however, you can take steps to reduce the financial impact of flooding before a disaster strikes. With flood insurance, homeowners can cover up to $250,000 for the dwelling and $100,000 on contents, whereas renters can insure up to $100,000 in contents, and a non-residential property owner can insure a building and its contents up to $500,000 each.
Most people believe that they are safe from floods; however, anywhere it rains it can flood. Flash floods can bring in walls of water 10-20 feet high within hours. In most cases, it takes 30 days after a flood policy is purchased to take effect, so it is important to have your policy in force before a storm approaches.
